Which Air Purifier Is Right for Me?
There are two basic types of air purification: pollutant removal, and pollutant destruction. Air filtration systems, for instance, remove pollutants from the air by trapping them on a media filter as the air passes through the system. Air filters are not always going to suffice for every homeowner, though, and electronic air purifiers are a good next step to consider.
An electronic air purifier, such as the electronic precipitator, draws air into an ionization chamber. Therein, the pollutants within the air are given an electric charge. Those pollutants are then simply collected on oppositely charged collector plates, which are easily removed for cleaning, or allowed to reenter the home, at which point they’ll cling to walls and surfaces so that they can be removed during routine cleaning.
Certain pollutants, though, such as viruses, mold and bacteria, are not easily removed from the air. These biological pollutants are better off being destroyed. That way, they won’t continue to thrive and reproduce, even after being trapped by the air filtration/purification system.
