Is Your Air Conditioner Blowing Warm Air?

While we are moving toward the fall season, there is still plenty of hot weather ahead of us here in Texas. With that in mind, it is important that you not ignore any signs of trouble with your home cooling system. Of course, certain air conditioning problems are all but impossible to ignore.

If, for instance, you find that your air conditioner is blowing hot air into your home, you are wise to schedule air conditioning repairs in Spring, TX as soon as possible. There are a few different potential causes of this problem. Not all are terribly serious, but some do require professional intervention.

A very dirty air filter could actually be the source of the problem, and this is a fairly simple issue to resolve. You need only switch out your current air filter, and remember to do so more regularly in the future. The clogged filter itself is not going to somehow heat the air, mind you. Instead, it increases airflow resistance. This can cause the evaporator coil to get too cold, as it is not able to draw enough heat out of the air. That can lead to condensation on it freezing up, and that ice will insulate the coil. This further impedes the cooling process.

A dirty air filter is not the only issue that can lead to icing of the evaporator coil. If you don’t have sufficient levels of refrigerant in your air conditioning system, it will struggle to draw heat out of the air. This will lead to the aforementioned freezing of the coil. Even if the coil doesn’t freeze, though, low refrigerant is enough cause for the air coming from your AC to turn warm.

Finally, remember to double check your thermostat settings. We all make mistakes, and you don’t really need a professional technician to come out to your home just to reset the thermostat temperature properly, or to switch it back to “cool” after accidentally setting it to “fan-only.” If your thermostat is actually failing or malfunctioning, though, professional repairs or replacement will be necessary.
