Make 2022 The Year of Efficiency

Happy new year! We know we’re a few days, or weeks, late, but it’s never too late to ring it in. Likewise, it’s never too late to get started on your new year’s resolutions and goals. But the beginning of the year is typically when we feel the most motivated to make a change in our daily lives which will result in big long-term changes in the future. So take advantage of this refreshing and motivating energy so you can carry it through the rest of 2022!

One of our goals for this new year is to focus on our home’s efficiency and think of ways we can improve it. If you have similar goals, keep reading and join us on our efficiency journey!

Cut Back on Energy Use

If your bills were sky-high in 2021, you are not alone. And it’s not entirely your fault. Because of the pandemic that’s been raging since 2020, we’ve spent a lot more time at our homes than usual. LEaving a lot more lights on, using more wifi than ever before, and just getting more use out of everyday appliances than we’re typically used to. But even though all of this is true, there’s still plenty we can do to make sure we’re using our homes as efficiently as possible.

Schedule HVAC Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial to keeping your HVAC unit running efficiently. We recommend scheduling biannual maintenance appointments on your HVAC system to ensure it's ready to keep your home cool or warm, depending on the season. A well-maintained heating and cooling system will run more efficiently and effectively, meaning it won’t need to stay on as long to heat or cool your home to the desired temperature. In turn, this will lower your electricity bills.

During a maintenance appointment, we’ll make sure to swap out your air filters which will improve the quality of your home’s indoor air as well!

Turn Off Unused Lights

Not to sound like your parent, but turn off the lights when you leave the room. Even if you’re just stepping out to make yourself lunch, it’s wasted electricity. While it might seem inconsequential, it all adds up, especially when you do it multiple times a day, every day.

We also recommend unplugging your unused appliances. That toaster doesn’t need to be plugged in 24/7, especially since you only really use it for 5 minutes a day. Appliances like these are often referred to as “energy vampires” because they slowly drain your home of electricity without you really giving it a second thought.

Save Water, Save the Planet, Lower Your Bills

Minimizing the amount of water your home wastes is a really simple way to have a positive impact on the environment. It will also go a long way towards helping to lower your bills and make your home more efficient overall. Here are some of our favorite and easy ways to lower our water consumption at home:

  • Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, washing your face, or shaving.
  • Does it take a while for your shower to heat up? Collect that water in a bucket and use it to water your plants or wash your car!
  • Install low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets throughout your home—these EPA-approved and recommended fixtures drastically lower our water consumption.

Are you ready to take on 2022 and make it the most efficient year to date? Let’s get started! And if you need assistance tackling any of these projects, don’t hesitate to give our team a call.
