As always, our team here at Milton Frank Plumbing & Cooling is committed to taking care of your home and keeping your family comfortable. We’ve received plenty of questions about how to prepare for the upcoming freeze, so we wanted to throw together a quick information kit to help you take care of your plumbing system and prevent your pipes from freezing. With temperatures expected to drop as low as 8 degrees in the next week, the time to insulate your pipes is NOW.
Quick & Easy Tips to Prevent Your Pipes from Freezing
Insulating your plumbing pipes is easy as can be. Here is a video we put together for you demonstrating how to prep your plumbing system for freezing temperatures.
Chances are, you won’t be able to find a ton of insulation tools at your local home improvement store right now. Luckily, everything you need can be found right in your home.
Below is a list of the household items you’ll need to protect your pipes:
- Plastic trash bags
- Towels
- Duct tape
- Drop cloths, blankets, or comforters
- A flathead screwdriver
Additional Tips for Preventing Frozen Pipes
In addition to insulating exposed pipes, there are a few things you can do to keep your water line from freezing this week.
Keep your water line flowing freely during a freeze by:
- Keeping your garage door closed
- Opening cabinets that have pipes inside of them (i.e. the cabinet under your kitchen or bathroom sink)
- Leaving your heater on (even if you won’t be home)
- Keeping your faucets running at a slow drip
