Troubleshoot Your AC With These Tips

We all love a good DIY! From crafting to designing new things for your yard; we all want to be a DIY extraordinaire. The best part of “do it yourself” projects is the fact that very little (or no) money has to be spent.

Next time you're having issues with your air conditioner, remember these tips and you may just be able to fix your air conditioner problem in a jiffy, or at least diagnose it! Of course, our experts here at Milton Frank Plumbing & Cooling are always here to help if you have questions.

Check For a Dirty Air Filter

A dirty or damaged air filter can cause water to leak from your unit, or affect your HVAC’s air pressure. If your air filter is dirty and caked with dust and other pollutants, it's simply time to replace it. It's important to check your air filter every two to three months to ensure your unit is working to its potential. The more debris on your filter, the more likely you are for a system breakdown.

Check Air Vents

Sometimes, your air vents can get covered from your curtains or purposely turned off due to the misconception that a turned-off air vent in an unused room will save some money. This isn't the case — in reality, it makes the air conditioning system work even harder and you will see an increase in your electric bill. If you're seeing water leaking from your unit or ice on refrigerant lines, your best bet is to check your vents!

Check the Condenser

If your air conditioner is pumping out warm air, it may be because of your condenser. The best thing to do is to go outside and check to see if the condenser is covered in a layer of dirt or not. If it's a thin layer of dirt, take a hose and on the lightest setting clean off the dirt. However, if it's a thicker layer of dirt, call a professional to help.
