If you ever encounter a salesperson telling you that there is an air conditioner that will last forever, run in the other direction! That is not the type of person that you want to be doing business with. Why not? Because they are lying right to your face. The fact of the matter is that no air conditioning system, even the ones manufactured by the best companies and regularly tuned up by the best technicians, is going to last forever.
You are going to need to schedule an air conditioning replacement in Conroe, TX at some point. That point, however, should not be when the system gives out on you entirely. We get it. You want to get the most for your money. That doesn’t mean that you should run your air conditioner into the ground, though. In today’s post, we have some points of consideration for you to keep in mind if you’re thinking about replacing your air conditioner.
Age Is an Important Factor (But Not Generally the Deciding One)
A lot of people seem to think that the age of their systems is the primary motivator when it comes to replacing the system. This is not entirely true, though. Yes, the age of your system is definitely an important factor, but it is one that you should really take into consideration as it pertains to other important factors.
Why is that? Well, just because a system is old does not mean that it can’t still effectively cool a home. And just because a system is relatively newer doesn’t mean that it won’t be a good candidate for replacement. The age of your system is something that should be kept in mind when considering the following questions.
1. Is Your System Efficient Enough?
You don’t need us to point out that we live in a very hot area. That means that you are going to be running your air conditioner a lot. That means that you really want to have an efficient air conditioner in place. Otherwise, your budget will really take a hit when the cooling season is underway.
Perhaps you have a younger AC that you inherited with your home which boasts a low efficiency rating. Maybe you skimped on efficiency in order to save money when funds were tight but you last needed a new AC. Maybe your older system was manufactured at a time when lower efficiency levels were the norm. Perhaps it’s just the ravages of time taking effect and rendering your system less efficient than it once was. Whatever the case, we’re here to help.
2. Is Your System Reliable Enough?
What does “reliable enough” mean? Well, you should not be scheduling air conditioner repairs every year. If you are, or if you are schedule AC repairs even more frequently than that, you should start thinking about a replacing. An older system may no longer be worth repairing, depending upon the cost of the repair, because it probably won’t last much longer anyway.
There does a come a point when even a newer system is not worth sinking more money into, though. Obviously, if your system is a young age, you aren’t going to replace it because it needs repair occasionally. If you’re looking at a very expensive repair for the compressor, though, or if frequent repairs are really starting to add up, your money may be better spent on a new system.
