You wake up in the middle of the night. Something doesn’t feel quite right. You reach for the light, and then it hits you — it’s way too hot! The strange thing is that the air conditioner is still running, but it is blowing warm air out of the vents. This is not an uncommon problem, and shy of a complete system breakdown it is one of the most alarming air conditioning issues that you may encounter. The good news is that there is not necessarily a serious issue at hand.
We have a few tips for you regarding the handling of this situation. While there are some best case scenarios that can be resolved without professional services, there are also some potential issues that are much more serious. If you suspect that there is a problem without a very obvious solution, you need to contact a professional air conditioning technician right away. Count on us for great AC services in Spring, TX.
Check Your Thermostat and Your Circuit Breaker
Now, it may sound obvious to tell you to check your thermostat in the event of an air conditioner that is blowing warm air, but you’d be surprised at how many people believe there is something wrong with their air conditioner and immediately dial a repair technician. The fact is that you may have simply set your thermostat incorrectly. You may even have just brushed up against it and switched its operating mode. If your thermostat is set to a fan-only mode, for instance, it is going to blow warm air throughout your house. If you use a heat pump, you may even have switched it over to its heating mode. You don’t need an HVAC professional to adjust your thermostat for you.
Another item to check is our circuit breaker. More specifically, you should check to see if your outdoor unit is actually running. If not, then you should check your circuit breaker. If the breaker for the circuit that the outdoor unit runs on has tripped, simply resetting that breaker should be enough to resolve the problem. Again, this is something that you can easily handle on your own.
When to Call for Help
If there is no obvious cause of your conundrum, then you should give us a call to have the situation assessed right away. It is possible, for instance, that you have a refrigerant leak in your air conditioner somewhere. This is a very serious issue. Your AC is not going to be able to complete its heat transfer process successfully if it is not properly charged with refrigerant, and it will place an enormous amount of strain on the compressor if you don’t have the issue resolved.
You may also have leaks in your air ducts. While that may not be quite as ominous as a refrigerant leak, it is still a serious problem that you should deal with immediately. You are going to pay more than you should have to in order to cool your home, and the warm air entering the ducts will inhibit your comfort.
