Are Tankless Water Heaters Worth the Investment?

tankless-water-heaterTo answer the question posed in the title of this blog: maybe. We cannot give a definitive answer as to which type of water heater is right for you, because we don’t have any information about your usage habits, your budget, or, perhaps most importantly, your personal user preferences.

That being said, we can say with certainty that the tankless water heater is definitely worth the investment for many homeowners.

Yes, They’re More Expensive

Tankless water heaters are more expensive than tank water heaters are, we’ll give you that. In fact, they are considerably more expensive. We’re not just talking about a price difference of a hundred bucks here. So why are so many people choosing to spend more money on an appliance that does the same job as one that is more affordable? Well, you have to take into account a number of factors, not just the price tag at the time of purchase.

They’re Also More Efficient

Tank water heaters are pretty simple in design, and they are more efficient than ever before. A simple design does not mean that there are no potential issues with that design, however, and there is one major one that can affect efficiency. This is the matter of standby energy loss.

Even a well-insulated hot water tank is going to allow for some standby energy loss. This happens when heat from the water in the tank transfers through the tank to the cooler air surrounding it. By ditching the tank altogether, the tankless water heater removes this possibility entirely.

And They Last Longer!

The energy savings afforded by a tankless water heater can add up, and that is why their very long lifespan is worth considering, too. With a tank water heater, you’re probably looking at about 10-15 years of service. With a tankless water heater,  it’s more like 20 or even 25! When you pair energy savings with that much longer of a lifespan, it’s plain to see that the economics of a tankless water heater in Magnolia, TX, despite a higher upfront cost, can pay off in the long run.
